1961: Bentley College

RG 01 Box 15 - Plan for accreditation - 1957.jpg

A newsletter from President Lindsay about the plan for accreditation and other new initiatives.

Years of work from Mr. Bentley, Mr. Lindsay, and countless others culminated in 1961 as the "Bentley School" expanded its curriculum and received accreditation as a four-year college - the Bentley College of Accounting and Finance.

An additional expansion of degree-granting authority in 1971 occassioned the name to be changed again. It became simply "Bentley College" as the school continued to move towards a more comprehensive, yet business-oriented education.

It was also in 1961 that Maurice Lindsay decided to retire, being granted the status of President Emeritus. The College selected alum and instructor Thomas L. Morison to become Bentley's third President.

Mr. Morison received a diploma from the Bentley School in 1938, and returned to teach classes in 1946 at the urging of his good friend Mr. Bentley. Morison was instrumental in the selection and development of the Waltham campus, and he remained involved with Bentley affairs after his retirement.
